This course has been designed by dr. ir. J. Schreurs from Schreurs Environmental Consultancy (Schreurs Milieuconsult) with financial support from the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial planning and the Environment (VROM), under a contract from the Netherlands agency for energy and the environment (Novem).
The course consists of a textbook and a computer model (located on this CD-rom in the folder: /leaching course/). The textbook describes the principles behind the Dutch methodology on measuring and calculating the environmental impact from various applications of mineral building materials, including waste materials. This methodology is used in The Netherlands to develop a legal framework.
With the computer model the various calculations can easily be made, resulting in information to compare case results with environmental standards.
In addition the CD-Rom contains valuable background information, including most papers presented at the fifth international conference Wascon 2003, being held in San Sebastian in Spain in June 2003.
Special thanks to Dr. J.J.J.M. Goumans for carefully reviewing this syllabus.
